White Funeral Home QUASQUETON – Shelia K. Payne, 86, of Independence, Iowa, and formerly of Quasqueton, Iowa, died Friday, May 29, 2026, at Prairie Hills Assisted Living in Independence. Funeral Services will be 11:00 a.m. – Wednesday, June 3, 2026, at the Quasqueton Union Church in Quasqueton. Burial will be at the Quasqueton Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, June 2, 2026, at White Funeral Home, Independence, and will continue for an hour before services, Wednesday, at the church. Shelia Kay Glenn was born, February 27, 1940, in Iowa City, Iowa, the daughter of John Dillon Glenn and Almeda Delsey (Wilson) Glenn. She was raised in Littleton, Iowa, attended school in Jesup, Iowa, graduating with the class of 1958 as Valedictorian. On February 21, 1959, she was united in marriage to Adlia ROY Payne, Jr. in Center Point, Iowa. Together they made their home in Quasqueton, where they raised their family. Shelia was a nurse’s aide at the Mental Health Institute in Independence for many years. Shelia loved spending time with her family, especially attending the grandchildren's events. She made it a point to attend everything she could. Shelia loved wine, dancing, shopping, and decorating, especially for Christmas. Her Christmas tree was second to none. She loved her dog Dixie and enjoyed doing crossword and Sudoku puzzles, and she loved to play cards. Shelia stayed active in the community too. She was an election volunteer in Buchanan County and a key volunteer with the Quasqueton Historical Society. Shelia was a member of the Quasqueton Presbyterian Union Church. Shelia is survived by two sons, Rory (Penny) Payne of Alta, Iowa, Joe (Janet) Payne of Independence; two daughters, Linda (Aaron) Haas of Independence, Nancy “Bug” (Kyle) Grimm of Quasqueton; 16 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren with two more “on the way;” and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Roy Payne, Jr.; one brother, Bob Glenn; and two sisters, Kathy Luloff and Julie Butters. Memorials will be directed to the church and to the Quasqueton Historical Society. |
