BELLEVUE – Michele Rae “Shelly” Williamson, 66 years old, of Bellevue, Iowa, died Tuesday, February 24, 2026, at the University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics, Iowa City, Iowa.

Private graveside services were Friday, February 27, 2026, at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Independence, Iowa.

Shelly was born August 10, 1959, in Lake City, Iowa, the daughter of Wayne Herbert Williamson and Donna Pauline (Michaels) Williamson. She attended school in Independence, Iowa, and was married to Cary Straw. The couple had one daughter, Amber Straw. They would later divorce. She then married Stephen Fowlkes and he preceded her in death.

Shelly was a selfless person and hard worker. She was a waitress at The Station House in Independence for many years. When she moved to Eau Claire, Wisconsin, she worked as a night auditor in the hotel industry. She loved being part of the hospitality industry, as she was always looking for ways to serve others. She led a simple life and spent many hours fishing along the Wapsipinicon River in Independence, reading books, and watching sports. Her favorite teams were the Milwaukee Bucks and the Minnesota Vikings. After she suffered a stroke at the age of 47, she continued to do everything she could to get back to leading a fulfilling life. It wasn’t easy, but her determination and the support of her family allowed her to overcome many challenges.

Shelly is survived by one daughter, Amber (Alonzo) Clayton of Chaska, MN; two grandchildren, Brooklyn Michele Charles and Tyson Richard Charles; her mother, Donna Williamson of Independence; one sister, Penny Williamson of Bellevue; one brother, Mike (Kathy Butters) Williamson of Independence; and her nephews and nieces, Kevin Cambell of Strawberry Point, Iowa, Jesse Cambell of Dubuque, Iowa, Lisa Dixon of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Cameron and Chelsea Williamson.

She is preceded in death by her father, Wayne Williamson.
