INDEPENDENCE – Suzette Yvonne “Sue” Reese, 70 years old, of Independence, Iowa, died Wednesday, January 7, 2026, at Lexington Estate at the Buchanan County Health Center in Independence.

Memorial Services will be 11:00 a.m. – Tuesday, January 13, 2026, at the White Funeral Home, Independence, Iowa, where there will be visitation from 9 a.m. until service time. Burial will be at a later date at the Marissa Cemetery in Marissa, Illinois.

Sue was born October 24, 1955, in Red Bud, Illinois, the daughter of Junior Walter Rowland and Alyene Delphine (Weiman) Rowland. She attended school in Marissa, Illinois, and loved to be active in the community. In 2003 she moved to Independence to be closer to family and excelled in her new town. Sue worked at Em’s Coffee Company in Independence where her genuine personality and love for people made her a great fit for the team.

Sue liked to bake chocolate chip cookies. She enjoyed word searches, puzzles, and crafts, and really took a liking to making latch hook rugs. Sue was always on the go. She loved to walk and made it a point to walk on her many travels across the United States as well as on her trips abroad. Locally she loved to stay active. Along with her time at Em’s Coffee, she enjoyed her friends and activities at the Darrell E. Davis Day Center, Camp Courageous, and Full Circle Services. She was also a member of the bowling league and Special Olympics teams that brought out her competitive nature.

Sue is survived by three sisters, Victoria (Casey) Reinkoester of Walker, Iowa, Zoe (Robert) Roberge of Winter Garden, Florida, and Stacey (Craig) Mitchell of Ellis Grove, Illinois. She’s also survived by her beloved nieces and nephews and their children.

She is preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Dale Reese; and two sisters, Donna Ann Rowland in infancy, and Natalie Lyons.

Memorials may be directed to the Darrell E. Davis Day Center in Independence, Iowa, or to Camp Courageous in Monticello, Iowa.
