INDEPENDENCE – Joyce E. Frazer, 82 years old, of Independence, Iowa, died, Saturday, October 25, 2025, at Lexington Estate at Buchanan County Health Center in Independence.

Funeral Services will be 1:00 p.m. – Saturday, November 1, 2025, at the White Funeral Home, Independence, Iowa, with burial at Wilson Cemetery in Independence.

Visitation will be 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m., Saturday, at the White Funeral Home in Independence.

Joyce Elaine Schwerin was born on a country farmhouse near Waverly, Iowa on August 12th, 1943, to Lorenz and Eula Schwerin. Joyce was baptized on September 26th, 1943, at St Paul’s Lutheran Church in Waverly, Iowa. In 1948 the family purchased a farmhouse west of Sumner, Iowa.

Joyce started 1st grade at a country school in 1948. In 1952 the county school closed, and she attended Sumner Schools from 4th grade until graduating with the class of 1961.

Joyce attended Sunday school & Church at St John’s Lutheran Church in Sumner, being confirmed on April 14th, 1957. She attended Luther League and sang in the senior choir. Joyce enjoyed music throughout her life playing piano, organ and the clarinet in the school band.

Joyce worked at St Joseph’s Hospital in Waverly, Allen Hospital, Bartels Lutheran Home, and Prairie View as the Activities Director. Joyce retired from Prairie View in December of 2009. She worked part-time for B & D Services in Independence, Iowa, and retired full-time in September of 2013.

Joyce is survived by her children, Jeffrey Gruber from Sumner, Iowa, David Frazer from Port Allen, Louisiana, Steven Frazer from Phoenix, Arizona and Michael & Katie Parker from Adel, Iowa.

Joyce is preceded in death by her parents, sisters Paulina & Martha, brother Donald and close friend, Beverly Miller and two of Beverly’s children Mark & Lori Miller and Deana Miller, Beverly’s daughter in law of which all were like family to her and our family.

Joyce was blessed with 11 grandchildren, Nick, Derek, Robert, Megan, Amanda, Elias, Katie, Joshua, Brandon, Ethan & Rylan and 5 great grandchildren of Marik, twins Leeah & Kiersten, Dilynn and Noah.

White Funeral Home, Independence, Iowa, is in charge of arrangements.
