BRANDON – George Joens, Jr., 87 years old, of Brandon, Iowa, died Friday, October 3, 2025, at the Good Samaritan Home in Manson, Iowa.

Graveside Services will be 11:00 a.m. – Thursday, October 9, 2025, at the Brandon Cemetery in Brandon, Iowa.

George was born November 27, 1937, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the son of George Johannes Joens and Lelia Mae (Goudy) Joens. George attended school in La Porte City, Iowa. On May 20, 1966, he was united in marriage to Dixie Lee Bumgarner in Caledonia, Minnesota. They have made their home in Brandon since 1966. Dixie preceded him in death on September 20, 2024.

George worked at John Deere for 30 years, retiring in 1994. He loved to hunt, fish, and watch old western movies. George was a dog lover and raised coon hounds in his spare time. He especially loved his dog “Buddy.” He always wore a hat and had a quick wit that allowed him to make genuine friends everywhere he went. George was a compassionate person and was especially proud of his grandchildren.

George is survived by his three sons, Robert (Cindy) Joens of Gilmore City, Iowa, Jeffrey (Donita) Joens of Decorah, Iowa, Aaron (Susan) Joens of Waterloo, Iowa; 7 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; and one sister, Bonnie (Tom) Haes of Vinton, Iowa.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Dixie Joens; and one sister, Pat Bumgarner.
