She attended school in Frederika, IA, until it closed and then graduated from Tripoli High School in 1964. She worked at Powers Manufacturing where she met her future husband. She and Dickie Ray Nicol were married on September 5, 1965, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, IA. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Jesup; had served as a Girl Scout Leader for 13 years. She worked for Exceptional Persons for several years and was a lunchroom supervisor at Jesup Community Schools. Iva enjoyed camping in the summer and hockey in the winter until the cold started bothering her knees. If you ask Iva what she wanted to be remembered for she would say first, her love for her family, then pets and then she loved to laugh, even at herself.

Iva is survived by one son, Tod (Peggy) Nicol of Cedar Falls, IA; one daughter, Tana (Mike) Swyter of Waterloo; 3 grandchildren; one brother, Harold (Patty) Mowatt, Jr. of New Hampton, IA. She is preceded in death by her husband, Dickie; also, her parents; one son, Troy; one step grandson, Tyler Swyter; one sister, Charlotte Mowatt; and two brothers, Donald and David Mowatt.

White Funeral Home, Jesup, IA, is in charge of the arrangements.
