White Funeral Home
Funeral Services will be 11:00 a.m. – Saturday, June 21, 2025, at White Funeral Home, Independence, with burial to follow at Wilson Cemetery in Independence. Visitation will be 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m., Friday, June 20th at White Funeral Home in Independence and for an hour before services, Saturday, at the funeral home. Diane was born January 20, 1946, in Waterloo, IA, the daughter of John Junior Umhoefer and Lucille Margaret (Norton) Umhoefer. She graduated from Independence High School with the class of 1964. She married John Victor White in 1965 at the St. John Catholic Church in Independence. Together they had two sons, Steven and Curtis. The couple would later divorce. Diane enjoyed working as a clerk at Ace Hardware in Independence for much of her career. She also worked in the laundry department at People’s Memorial Hospital and as a clerk at Wal-Mart, both in Independence. Diane was a hard worker and a loving caretaker. She was an avid outdoorswoman, and loved to fish, canoe, and garden. She has probably fished almost every trout stream in northeast Iowa. She also loved animals of all types and had a dog grooming business for several years. She enjoyed sewing and spending time with her family and friends, often playing cards or dominoes. Diane is survived by her two sons, Steven White of Winthrop, IA, and Curtis White of Independence, IA; three granddaughters, Allesia, Tierney, and Brianna; two great grandsons; and also, her cousin, Carol (Donald) Mumm of Independence. She is preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Jack Umhoefer; several cousins; and her long time significant other, Larry Rasmussen.
