Independence – Maxine C. Schweitzer, 90 years old, of Independence, Iowa, died on Friday, August 10, 2018, at Lexington Estate in Independence.  She was born on April 4, 1928, in Buchanan County, Iowa, the daughter of Clarence Howard and Sadie Alice (Kidd) Stanford.  She graduated from high school in Quasqueton, Iowa, with the Class of 1945.  On January 4, 1947, she and Vaughn Tuttle were married at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa.  They were later divorced.  On August 17, 1990, she and John H. Schweitzer were married in Osage Beach, Missouri.  Mrs. Schweitzer was a medical transcriptionist in Salinas, California, before retiring in 1990.  She was a member of the Quasqueton Union Church in Quasqueton and the O.E.S. in West Branch, Iowa.  She enjoyed golfing, camping, fishing, and handiwork like knitting and crochet.

Mrs. Schweitzer is survived by her husband, John (Jack), 1 daughter, Jacqueline Marlatt of Gravois Mills, Missouri, 2 sons, Michael Tuttle of Gravois Mills and Richard Tuttle of Salinas, California, 3 grandchildren, and 3 brothers, Lyle (Audrey) Stanford of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Jack (Sharon) Stanford of Quasqueton, and Dick (Char) Stanford of Hiawatha, Iowa.  She is also survived by 1 step daughter, Beverly (Richard) Schindler of Love’s Park, Illinois, 2 step sons, Steve (Kim) Schweitzer of Rockford, Illinois, and David (Judy) Schweitzer of Machesney Park, Illinois, 6 step grandchildren, and 4 step great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, 1 sister, Bernice Kimball, and 3 brothers, Lavern Stanford, Robert Stanford, and Donald Stanford.

Memorial Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, August 18, 2018, at the Quasqueton Union Church in Quasqueton with Rev. Kevin Jennings officiating.  The family will greet friends for an hour before services.  White Funeral Home of Independence is in charge of arrangements.
