Dunkerton – Kanen James McIntosh, 6 years old, of Dunkerton, IA, died of natural causes, Wednesday, June 13, 2018, at UnityPoint Health - Allen Memorial Hospital, Waterloo, IA.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. - Tuesday, June 19, 2018, at Jesup Bible Fellowship Church, Jesup, IA, with burial at Fairview Cemetery, Dunkerton, IA.

Visitation will be 4:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m., Monday, June 18, at White Funeral Home, 1315 Main St., Jesup, IA. Visitation will continue for an hour before services at the church on Tuesday. Memorials may be directed to the family.

Kanen was born February 12, 2012, at Covenant Medical Center, Waterloo, IA, the son of August James McIntosh and Kathryn Marie (Nielsen) McIntosh. Kanen had just completed kindergarten at Jesup Community School and was looking forward to first grade. He was a member of Prairie Lakes Church in Cedar Falls, IA,  with his family, where he attended Sunday School. Kanen loved nature, animals, and science. He loved to be outside at the cabin and on the farm. He loved to build things, break them, and build them back up again. He loved to play with his siblings and his Transformers. He was a loving brother with a kind and protective heart. Kanen’s bright smile and personality will forever be missed.

Kanen is survived by his parents, August & Katie McIntosh of Dunkerton, IA; his sister, Alyvia, and brothers, Winston and Holt, all at home; maternal grandparents, Ronald & Charlotte Nielsen of Waterloo, IA; paternal grandparents, James & Patricia McIntosh of Dunkerton, IA; maternal great grandparents, LeRoy Nielsen of Denver, IA, Richard & Joan Reiter of Waterloo, IA; paternal great grandparents, John McIntosh of Dunkerton, IA, Beulah “Boots” Willett of Jesup, IA; paternal step-great grandmother, Elizabeth Bare of Winthrop, IA; aunts & uncles, Jaccie (Sam) Feldt, Stephanie Nielsen, Jessica (David) Hansen, Andrea (Luke) Johnson, Lyle (Sara) McIntosh; 13 cousins; great uncle Mark Bare and several other great aunts & uncles; also special friends, Joel & Machelle Forsyth and Duane & Grandma Karen Forsyth, all of Charles City, IA.

He is preceded in death by his maternal great grandmother, Mildred Nielsen; paternal great grandparents Juanita McIntosh and Lyle Bare; great aunt Catherine Swinford and great uncle Duane Earl Swinford.
