Independence – Lawrence G. Zerba, 90 years old, of Independence, Iowa, died on Saturday, February 25, 2017, at the Strawberry Point Lutheran Home in Strawberry Point, Iowa.  He was born on November 13, 1926, in Coggon, Iowa, the son of Ralph Eugene and Mary Jane (Thompson) Zerba.  He earned his high school diploma while serving in the U.S. Navy.  He served in active duty for 22 years and was retired for 42 years.  On May 25, 1954, he and the former Patricia Ann Tyler were married at the First Presbyterian Church in Independence.  He was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the Bechter-Boies V.F.W. Post #2440 in Independence.  He was an avid trout fisherman and fished the streams of northeast Iowa and southeastern Minnesota.

Mr. Zerba is survived by his wife of 62 years, Pat, 1 daughter, Nellie Grace (Robert) Harn of Oelwein, Iowa, 1 son, Larry Zerba, Jr. of Australia, 2 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren, 1 brother, Merwin (Marge) Zerba of Hiawatha, Iowa, and 1 sister, Bertha Zerba of Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 4 brothers, and 1 sister.

Funeral Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 1, 2017, at the First United Methodist Church in Independence with Rev. Scott Meador officiating.  Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery in Independence.  Friends may call for visitation from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Tuesday, February 28th, at the White Funeral Home in Independence where a Military Service begins at 6:30 p.m.
