Independence – Betty Mae Reid-Kauffman, 69 years old, of Independence, Iowa, died on Thursday, August 27, 2015, at Grandview Care Center in Oelwein, Iowa.  She was born on July 29, 1946, in Waterloo, Iowa, the daughter of Raymond John and Helen Rose (Getz) Reid.  She graduated from high school in Cedar Falls, Iowa, with the Class of 1964 and then attended the University of Iowa in Iowa City, Iowa.  On October 28, 1995, she and Larry Lee Kauffman were married in Waterloo, Iowa.  Mrs. Reid-Kauffman was a preschool teacher with Tri County Head Start for 20 years.  She retired in 2008.  She was a member of AARP.  She enjoyed trout fishing in northeast Iowa, working crossword puzzles, and her pet dogs.

Mrs. Reid-Kauffman is survived by her husband, Larry, 1 daughter, Angela (Rob) Allison of Des Moines, Iowa, 1 grandson Jesse Hill, 2 step sons, Randy (“Sam”) Kauffman of Jesup, Iowa, and Chris (Luz) Kauffman of St. Joseph, Missouri, and 3 step daughters, Sherri (Doug) Fratzke of Independence, Iowa, Pamela (Clancy) Krusemark of Raymond, Iowa, and Sonja (Dan) Grant of Palmer, Alaska.  She is also survived by 17 step grandchildren, 9 step great grandchildren, and 1 sister, Charlene Reid of Cedar Falls, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

A Celebration of Life will be held from 12 noon until 2:00 p.m. on September 1, 2015, at the White Funeral Home in Independence. Her cremated remains will be buried in Otterville Cemetery in rural Independence immediately following.

Memorials will be directed to the family.
