Independence – John Lewis McMorris, Sr., 89 years old, long time successful businessman and founder of Independence Corn By Products (ICBP) peacefully passed away on June 3, 2015.  The experiences of dementia did not diminish his engagement of life nor his feistiness.

John was born near Weldon, Iowa, the son of William and Eliza McMorris on December 28, 1925.  On February 21, 1944, he was married to Viola Mae McBee.  She preceded him in death in 2006.  During WW II, John served with the U.S. Army (97^th Infantry Division) in Europe and Japan.

Survivors include sons, John L. Jr. (Sue) of Green Valley, Arizona; Fred (Barb) of Barrington, Illinois; Roger of Maui, Hawaii, special extended family, Karen (Bob) Schumacher of Jesup, Iowa; foreign exchange student, Luc Tran Van, M.D., of Fayetteville, North Carolina, as well as 9 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, and special friends, Verna and Donald Sperfslage of Winthrop and Lori Postel of Independence.

Private graveside services will be held at the Leon Cemetery in Leon, Iowa.  The family wishes to especially thank the staff at the BCHC Long Term Care for their kindness and professionalism.
