Independence – Pearl Mae Brislawn, 85 years old, of Sumner, Iowa, formerly of Independence, Iowa, died on Sunday, March 29, 2015, at the Hillcrest Home in Sumner, with her family at her side.  She was born on May 31, 1929, in Salt Lake City, Utah, the daughter of Fred Raymond and Marie Wilhemina (Kimmerle) Miller.  Pearl worked at the Mental Health Institute in Independence for over 15 years.  Later she continued her education at North Iowa Area Community College and Kirkwood College where she earned her degree as a Registered Nurse.  She moved to Denver, Colorado, where she was employed by Denver County in Home Health Care for over 35 years.

She returned to Iowa in 2000 to be nearer her family.  She continued helping the elderly in the Oelwein, Iowa, area, doing blood pressure checks, delivering Meals on Wheels, and other volunteer service.

Pearl is survived by her children, Richard (Hazel) Kennicott of Glenwood, Iowa, Linda (Larry) Treptow of Westgate, Iowa, Sharon (Jim) Rose of Princeton, Texas, and Carolyn (Allen) Riechmann of Sumner, Iowa.  She is also survived by 9 grandchildren, Christine Clayton, Holly Marasco, Mandy Ragone, Connie Steggall, Craig Treptow, Scott Evans, Jeff Morey, Mike Morey, and Brian Morey, 4 step grandchildren, 28 great grand-children, 8 step great grandchildren, 3 great great grandchildren, 2 step great great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Pearl was preceded in death by her parents, 2 brothers, Paul Miller and Leo Miller, 1 sister, Edith Saindon, and 1 great grandson, Nicholas Ragone.

Memorial Services will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, April 2, 2015, at the White Funeral Home in Independence with Chaplain Al Biere officiating.  Burial will be at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Independence.  Friends may call for visitation from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Wednesday, April 1st, at the funeral home.  On line condolences may be left at www.White-MtHope.com.

The family requests in lieu of flowers that memorials be directed to Unity Point Hospice in Waterloo, Iowa, of a charity of the donor’s choice.
