Independence – Thelma B. “Connie” Wilson, 86 years old, of Independence, Iowa, died on August 29, 2014, at Prairie Hills Assisted Living in Independence.  She was born on April 1, 1928, in Independence, the daughter of Alva Carl and Bernice Alta (Arnold) McCalley.  She attended school in Independence.  On April 1, 1946, she and James Edward Wilson were married in Missouri.  He preceded her in death in 1967.  Mrs. Wilson was a care giver and home maker and also was a cook at East Towne Care Center in Independence for several years in the 1970’s.  She was a member of the V.F.W. Auxiliary and attended First Baptist Church in Independence.  She enjoyed playing Scrabble and Yahtzee, and she loved her cat, Callie.

Mrs. Wilson is survived by 5 sons, Donald Wilson and Gary (Judy) Wilson, both of Independence, Kenneth (Peggy) Wilson of Avenal, California, John Wilson of Denver, Colorado, and Mark (Jen) Wilson of Center Point, Iowa, 1 daughter, Glenda (Jim Boyland) Wilson of Cedar Falls, and 1 grandson whom she raised, Tony (Andrea Tisl) Wilson of Independence.  She is also survived by several grandchildren, several great grandchildren, and 1 sister, Georgia (Donald) Sherrets of Independence.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, 1 daughter, Gloria Cashen, 2 brothers, Alva McCalley, Jr. and Chidley McCalley, 1 grandson, and 2 great grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, September 2, 2014, at the White Funeral Home in Independence with Chaplain Dwayne L. Potter officiating.  Casket Bearers will be Tony Wilson, Matt Cashen, Mike Wilson, Gary Wilson, Brian Wilson, and Jim Boyland.  Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery in Independence.  Friends may call for visitation from 1 p.m. until 5 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 1st, at the funeral home.
