Independence – Audrey E. Salow, 87 years old, of Independence, Iowa, died on Saturday, July 5, 2014, at the Buchanan County Health Center Long Term Care in Independence.  She was born on August 31, 1926, in Cono Township of Buchanan County, Iowa(near Rowley), the daughter of Gus and Martha Adelia (Hart) Bergstrom.  She graduated from high school in Winthrop, Iowa, with the Class of 1944.  On November 25, 1948, she and William R. Salow were married at the First Lutheran Church in Manchester,Iowa.  Mrs. Salow worked several places including Hinson Manufacturing in Waterloo, where she made field packs during World War II, and Eagle Grocery in Cedar Falls.  They moved to Independence in 1991.  Mrs. Salow was an active member of her church inWaterloo and also at Immanuel Lutheran in Independence.  She was also an accomplished seamstress.  She made clothing for her children and herself.

Mrs. Salow is survived by her husband of 65 years, William, 2 sons, William M. (Kimberly) Salow of Mitchellville, Iowa, and Randall R. (Rachel) Salow of Independence, Iowa, and 1 daughter, Elaine (Rick) Werkman of Kansas City, Missouri.  She is also survived by 6 grandchildren, Anne Salow, Mary Salow, John Salow, Raymond Salow, Quinn Salow, and Andrew Salow, 2 great grandchildren, Kayleigh Salow and James Greve, 1 sister, Deloris Lynch of Independence, Iowa, and her life long friend, Donna Collins of Waterloo, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her parents, 2 brothers, Orville Bergstrom and John Bergstrom, and 2 sisters, Orma McCombs and Eloise Christensen.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 9, 2014, at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Independence with Pastor Kurt Bockoven officiating.  Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery in Independence.  Friends may call for visitation from 2:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 8th, at the White Funeral Home in Independence.
