White Funeral Home Jesup – Fern Irene Ketels, 97 years old, of Jesup, IA, died Friday, June 20, 2014, at the Dennis & Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy, Hiawatha, IA. Fern was born October 13, 1916, at Waterloo, IA, the daughter of James L. Griffith and Nora G. (Lufkin) Griffith. She married Leo M. Pint on May 29, 1940, in Independence, IA. He preceded her in death in 1969. She married Rodman Baker on October 7, 1974. He preceded her in death in 1975. On March 17, 1988, she married Leslie Ketels. He preceded her in death in 2005. Fern was a school teacher and a homemaker. She also worked at the Mental Health Institute for 13 years. She was active and very instrumental in the formation of the Buchanan County Senior Citizen Center. She was a member at St. Athanasius Catholic Church, Jesup, IA. Mrs. Ketels is survived by six sons; Roger (Jaynie) Pint, of Independence, IA, Bernard (Arnette) Pint, of Iowa City, IA, Russell (Debra) Pint, of Waterloo, IA, David Pint, of Ocala, FL, Steven Pint, Arlington, Virginia, and Kenneth Pint, of Independence, IA; 11 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, and one great great grandson. She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands; two sons, Gerald in infancy and Alan Pint in 2009; one daughter, Leanne Heidt in 1991; two brothers Jim Griffith and Victor Griffith; and one sister, Hazel Jensen. Funeral Services will be 10:30 a.m. - Monday, June 23, 2014, at St. Athanasius Catholic Church, Jesup, with Msgr. Lyle Wilgenbusch officiating. Burial will be at the St. John’s Catholic Cemetery, Independence, IA. Visitation will be 3:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m., Sunday, June 22nd at the White Funeral Home, Jesup, with a Parish Rosary at 3:30 p.m. Visitation will continue for an hour before service Monday at the Church. Memorials will be directed to St. Athanasius Church and School. |
