Independence – Kenneth D. Sherrets, Jr., 64 years old, of rural Independence, Iowa, died on Saturday, April 19, 2014, due to a farm accident at his home.  He was born on August 17, 1949, in Independence, Iowa, the son of Kenneth Dale and Alberta Mae (Wells) Sherrets, Sr.  He graduated from East Buchanan High School in Winthrop, Iowa, with the Class of 1967.  He also attended Kirkwood Community College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.  He served in the U.S. Marines during the Vietnam War where he was awarded the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star.  On April 27, 1968, he and the former Barbara Jean Roscovius were married at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Independence.  They later divorced.  On June 2, 1990, he and the former Annette Kay Franck were married at The Dog House in rural Quasqueton, Iowa.  They were later divorced, also.  Kenny had several occupations.  He farmed, he was a welder, and he raised greyhound dogs.  He was a member of the Cedar Rock American Legion Post #434 in Quasqueton, the Disabled American Veterans, and the N.R.A.  Kenny had a charisma that was larger than life.  He was an entertainer who enjoyed talking with friends, living at the farm, riding motorcycles, and good whiskey.

Kenny is survived by his daughter, Kelly (William) McCardle of Rowley, Iowa, his son, Joshua (AnnMarie) Sherrets of Independence, Iowa, and 5 grandchildren.  He is also survived by 1 sister, Patty (Paul) Eddy of Byron, Illinois, 2 brothers, Michael Sherrets of Wichita, Kansas, and Daniel (Diane) Sherrets of Kearney, Missouri, his special friend, Kristy Lynch of Independence, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and 1 daughter, Leslie Ann Sherrets.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 24, 2014, at the White Funeral Home in Quasqueton, Iowa, with Bill Sloop officiating.  Terry Webster, Dennis Brown, Danny Dean, Jeff Smock, and Terry Wilson will be Honorary Casket Bearers.  Friends may call for visitation after 3 p.m. on Wednesday, April 23rd, at the White Funeral Home in Quasqueton.
