INDEPENDENCE - Penny A. Everett, 54, of Independence, IA, died at her home, Saturday, December 9, 2023, following a courageous battle with cancer.

Visitation will be 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, December 12th at White Funeral Home, Independence.

Funeral Services will be 11:00 a.m. – Wednesday, December 13, 2023, at White Funeral Home, Independence, IA, with a one hour visitation prior to services. Burial will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Independence.

Penny Ann Everett was born January 18, 1969, in Independence, IA, the daughter of Kenneth Clair Everett and Shirley Ann (Bergom) Everett. She graduated high school in Independence with the class of 1987 where she excelled and enjoyed her time as a Mustang Cheerleader. She went on to Kirkwood Community College in Cedar Rapids, IA, and graduated from the Executive Secretary Program. Penny and her husband, Gregory Adam Garcia, made their home in Independence, where she worked as an executive secretary at the Mental Health Institute for 18 years before retiring due to her health. Penny was an avid bowler and also liked to shoot pool. She always looked forward to pool and bowling leagues. She loved her family and friends; and her pride and joy was her son, Dylan. Penny loved being his biggest cheerleader at all of his events. Dylan, in turn, was Penny’s biggest cheerleader through all of her cancer treatments.

Penny is survived by her husband, Gregory “Adam” Garcia of Independence, IA; one son, Dylan Everett-Garcia at home; her father, Kenneth C. “Kenny” Everett of Independence; adopted brother, Albert Adams; and other aunts, uncles, and cousins, including Kathy Bergom Barton of California. Penny is also survived by Adam’s parents, Gilbert & Debra Garcia of Sugar Land, TX.

Penny is preceded in death by her grandparents, Cecil & Betty Everett and Floyd & Martha Bergom; her mother, Shirley Everett; and one brother, Kenneth A. Everett.
