FAIRBANK – Steven William Scott, 71 years old, of Fairbank, IA, and formerly of Independence, IA, died Saturday, August 5, 2023, at UnityPoint – Allen Memorial Hospital, Waterloo, IA.

Private services have been scheduled with a public Celebration of Life to be held at a later date.

Steve was born April 15, 1952, in Independence, the son of William Elwood Scott and Patricia Mae (Hanna) Scott. He attended school in Independence, and later received his GED. On July 20, 1970, he was united in marriage to Patricia Lee Wilkinson. They made their home and raised their family in Independence before moving to Fairbank, where they have been for the last 12 years.

Steve started hauling milk at a young age and continued to be a truck driver well into his later years. Steve’s true passion was camping. He and Pat loved to camp together and host friends and family at their camper. They started with a small pop-up camper and over the years upgraded to their most recent fifth wheel with a few more comforts to enjoy. Steve also liked to find good burger joints. If the restaurant didn’t have a good burger, he would find a place that did, because as Steve would say: “I’m not here for a long time, I’m here for a good time!”

Steve loved his family and always looked forward to time with them, but he especially loved to be with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He loved to teach them new things and explore together while camping.  He enjoyed morel mushroom hunting, and he liked breakfasts, candy bars, and desserts. Steve was a jokester and enjoyed listening to real country music on the jukebox.

Steve is survived by his wife of 53 years, Pat Scott of Fairbank; three children, Doug Scott of Fairbank, Rachelle (Denny) Fink of Fairbank, April (Shane) Solomon of Jesup, IA; six grandchildren, Mitchell (Nikki) Mastin, Mason (Haley) Mastin, Nicole Fink, Hailey Scott, Mackenzie Solomon, Paige Solomon; four great grandchildren, Jaycee, Carson, Ariya, Zeryna; and one more on the way, Oliver; one brother, Harry (Connie) Scott of Prairie du Chien, WI; one sister, Billie Jo Tonn of Independence, IA; one brother-in-law, Dave Draper of Cedar Falls, IA; and one sister-in-law, Grace Scott of Jesup.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Carlos “Butch” Scott; two sisters, Nancy See, and Carol Draper; and two brothers-in-law, Richard Tonn and Harvey See.
