INDEPENDENCE – Tyler John Corkery, 21 years old, of Independence, IA, died Wednesday, June 28, 2023, in Independence. Tyler had been battling with all his strength, a mental health crisis that was the result of a severe head injury he suffered two years ago.

Public Funeral Services will be 3:00 p.m. - Wednesday, July 12, 2023, at St. John Catholic Church, Independence, with burial in the church cemetery.

Public visitation will be 3:00 - 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, July 11th at White Funeral Home, Independence, where there will be a Vigil Service at 6:00 p.m. Visitation will continue for an hour before services, Wednesday, at the funeral home.

Tyler was born July 16, 2001, in Cedar Rapids, IA, the son of Adam Scott Corkery and Tara Rachel (Fagle) Corkery. He graduated from Independence High School with the class of 2020. While in school, Tyler enjoyed playing football and other activities. He attended Hawkeye Community College for a year before he started working and found joy in his job at Strictly Roofing and then at Iowa Wall Sawing. He also enjoyed working on cars and motorcycles and racing his dirt bike. He spent a lot of time at the Independence Skate Park, skateboarding with his friends and trying new stunts. He also liked to write music and perform with his friends. Tyler will be remembered as a loving and caring son, brother, grandson, and friend. He loved to see people smile, so he always had a joke or a prank ready. He was proud of his family and was a mentor to his brothers and sisters.
