Linda Faye Mendenhall was born June 8, 1948, in San Jose, CA, the daughter of Floyd Mendenhall and Beryl Irene (Smith) Mendenhall.

After a short stay in California, Linda moved with her family back to Independence, IA where she attended school. On August 1, 1965, she was united in marriage to William “Bill” Harold Dillon, at the Grace Lutheran Church in Jesup, IA. They made their home in rural Independence where they raised their kids. Linda worked for the newspaper for a couple years, but then started working as the receptionist for Bloom Manufacturing, and continued in that position for 30 years, retiring in 2008.

Linda loved to travel, especially with Bill on his motorcycle. From 1974 until 2005, they traveled to 48 of the United States and 5 Canadian Provinces. They attended many motorcycle rallies over the years and made lifelong friends along the way. Linda enjoyed trips to the casinos and seemed to have a magic touch when she played. She liked pretty things, especially her rings from Bill. She liked to camp and shoot archery too. Linda could have a good time wherever she went. She was often the life of the party. Her personality brought a lot of smiles and laughter to her friends and family. She was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Independence.

Linda is survived by her husband of 57 years, William “Bill” Dillon of Independence, IA; her son, Ronald Dillon of Indianapolis, IN; her daughter, Rhonda Langham of Chandler, AZ; two grandchildren, Drake Langham and Madison Buller; her sisters, Kaye (Russ Roth) Mendenhall Savago of Rowley, IA, Rebecca Jorgensen of Independence, IA, Doris (Cory Clinton) Shaw-Clinton of Independence, IA; her brothers, Randy (Karen) Shaw of Council Bluffs, IA, Steve Shaw of Independence, IA, Bill Mendenhall of California; and many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents; one son, Travis John Dillon in infancy; her sisters, Ruth Templeton and Lois Jokumsen; her brothers, Gene Shaw, Charles Mendenhall, Dennis Mendenhall, and Bob Mendenhall; and her nephews, Jimmy Savago, Danny Jokumsen, Adam Shaw, Terry Mendenhall, Stacey Mendenhall, Mark Mendenhall, and Dorsey Wilson.
