Jesup – Margaret Laurayne Christopherson Thom, 93 years old, of Jesup, IA, died of natural causes, Saturday, April 27, 2019, in her home at Winding Creek Meadows, Jesup.

Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. - Friday, May 3, 2019, at the American Lutheran Church, Jesup, IA, with burial at Cedar Crest Cemetery, Jesup.

Visitation will be 12:00 p.m. until service time, Friday, at the church. Memorials will be directed to the church. White Funeral Home, Jesup, IA, is in charge of arrangements.

Margaret Laurayne Kvamme was born August 19, 1925, on a farm in Allamakee County, IA, the daughter of Henry Gerhard Kvamme and Inga Genetta (Olson) Kvamme. She graduated from Decorah High School with the class of 1943. On September 26, 1944, she was united in marriage to Jerome Kenneth Christopherson at the First Lutheran Church, Decorah, IA. They moved to Jesup in 1951 and became very active in the community and church. He preceded her in death in 1997. While wintering in Arizona, she met Wilfred “Bill” Thom, and they were married on July 9, 2004, at the Little Brown Church, Nashua, IA. He preceded her in death in 2018.

Margaret worked as a psychiatric aid at the Mental Health Institute in Independence from 1966 until her retirement in 1987. She also was the bookkeeper for the family business, Christopherson & Sons Hydraulic Service in Jesup. Margaret was a member of the American Lutheran Church, Jesup.

Margaret is survived by 3 sons, David (Valerie) Christopherson of Waterloo, IA, Jerry (Beth) Christopherson of Cedar Falls, IA, Duayne Christopherson of Winchester, CA; 3 daughters, Lois Hoffman of Mesa, AZ, Janice (Douglas) Miller of Cedar Falls, IA, Kathryn Steinlage of Woodberry, MN; 1 step-daughter, Joellen Rheinschmidt of Post Falls, ID; 15 grandchildren; 2 step-grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; and 6 step-great grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her first husband Jerome; her second husband, Wilfred; 2 sisters, Florence Wennes and Lillian Bieber; 1 daughter-in-law, Laurie Christopherson; and 1 step-son-in-law, Ted Rheinschmidt.

A special ‘Thank You’ to Pastor Kristen, staff at Winding Creek Meadows, and Cedar Valley Hospice for their love, support, and care.
