Independence – John E. Eschen, 85 years old, of Independence, Iowa, died on Thursday, March 28, 2019, at his home.  He was born on June 24, 1933, in Aurora, Iowa, the son of Bernhardt Edward and Lena Marie (Clark) Eschen.  He graduated from high school in Aurora.  He served in the U.S. Marines during the Korean Conflict.  OnDecember 9, 1956, he and the former Dixie Lee Tyler were married in Aurora.  Mr. Eschen farmed and later, worked as a machinist at Construction Machinery Company inWaterloo, Iowa.  He retired in 1989.  Mr. Eschen collected toy tractors and after he retired, he continued helping on area farms.

Mr. Eschen is survived by his wife of 62 years, Dixie, 4 daughters, Holly (Bill) Trebon of Fairbank, Iowa, Cydallia (John) Sonksen of Clear Lake, Iowa, Victoria (Mark) Eschen of Livonia, Michigan, and Kristi (David) Murray of Center Junction, Iowa.  He is also survived by 9 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, 1 sister, Loretta Rasmussen of Independence, Iowa, and 1 brother, Donald (Edith) Eschen of North Las Vegas, Nevada.

He was preceded in death by his parents and 1 grandson, Kenneth Trebon.

Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, April 2, 2019, at the White Funeral Home in Independence with Rev. Greg DeBoer officiating.  Burial will be in Campton Cemetery in Lamont, Iowa.  Friends may call for visitation from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. on Monday, April 1st, at the funeral home.
