Independence – Judd H. Bantz, 88 years old, of Independence , Iowa , died on Sunday, February 10, 2019 , at the Buchanan County Health Center in Independence , Iowa. He was born on July 24, 1930, in Buchanan County, Iowa, near Otterville, the son of Henry C. and Grace ( Anderson ) Bantz.  He graduated from high school in Independence, Iowa. On August 13, 1950, he and the former Marilyn Jean Hanson were married at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa.  Mr. Bantz worked for the Buchanan County Road Department.  He retired in 1991.  Mr. Bantz enjoyed fishing, gardening, playing Euchre, and the Iowa Hawkeyes.  He also enjoyed playing baseball with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Mr. Bantz is survived by his wife of 68 years, Marilyn, 1 daughter, Karen (Duane Berns) Johnson of Surprise, Arizona, 2 grandsons, Brent (Nikki) Kimmerle of Winona, Minnesota, and Shane (Shari) Higgins of Nevada, Iowa, and 8 great grandchildren, Adam, Lauren, and Lacey Kimmerle, and Jack, Grant, Ella, Alec, and Drew Higgins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 1 brother, and 6 sisters.

Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, February 15, 2019 , at the White Funeral Home in Independence with Rev. Greg DeBoer officiating.  Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery in Independence.  Friends may call for visitation after 9 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 15^th, at the funeral home.
